Sarah Newton (Conservative, Truro and Falmouth) and other MPs, including Peter Aldous (Conservative, Waveney) have presented a bill to Parliament, which would require the government to publish a plan for meeting the domestic energy efficiency targets set by the Clean Growth Strategy. They presented the bill on Tuesday 18 June,
Newton explained in presenting the bill that it would make provisions for monitoring performance against milestones in the strategy and establish an advisory body on implementation of the plan. Additionally, she said that what was missing was a roadmap for retrofitting energy efficiency measures into most homes where people already live. She said that to achieve meaningful targets, £5.2bn in investment will be needed.
The bill received its second reading on the 19th.
Meanwhile Clive Lewis (Labour, South Norwich)’s Private Member’s Bill ion the Green New Deal is still awaiting its second reading.
