BEIS seeks views to unlock energy efficiency

BEIS is seeking views on energy efficiency in a new consultation, looking at market barriers and how to create new markets, in a bid to ensure it can become a reliable alternative to generation and network reinforcement.

Published on 22 July, the government consultation labelled energy efficiency as a “vital part” of its Clean Growth Strategy and one of the most cost-effective mechanisms to ensuring the net zero 2050 target is met.

It set out various policy considerations for respondents to consider, such as how current markets can be leveraged to facilitate energy efficiency; suggestions on how to design new enabling mechanisms; the benefits of combining energy efficiency and flexibility; and how the government can support behavioural change.

The consultation will close on 25 September.
