Clark updates MPs on net zero target, tables draft implementing order

Business Secretary Greg Clark updated the Commons on the government’s proposals for setting a net zero emissions target for 2050 on 12 June. He told MPs “There are many issues in this House on which we passionately disagree, but there are moments when we can act together to take the long-term decisions that will shape the future of the world that we leave to our children and our grandchildren”.

The debate coincided with the tabling of the Statutory Instrument that will modify the current 80% abatement target established by the Climate Change Act 2008. The draft order will be considered by a committee of MPS before coming back to the house for affirmative resolution.
