Midlothian Council is searching for an energy partner to help it develop projects across its communities over the next 25-40 years.
The first of these projects, revealed on 17 July, will be a local heating network for the new Shawfair town development. It will use energy produced from the £164mn Millerhill Energy from Waste (EfW) plant with the council aiming for it to result in cheaper heating being offered to local residents.
The project will see around 3,000 homes to be heated as well as a new school and council building alongside a top-up/back-up energy centre. For the council to meet funding conditions applied to its plans, part of the project must be in place by September 2021.
