Electric vehicle (EV) drivers will now be able to benefit from the UK’s largest public rapid charge motorway hub, which has opened on the M6 in the Midlands.
On 3 March, InstaVolt announced that an eight-bay hub has opened at Welcome Break’s service area on the northbound carriageway of the M6 at Corley. A further seven rapid chargers will follow on Welcome Break’s southbound carriageaway at Corley by the end of the month. Having already installed 570 rapid chargers, the hubs are the latest part of InstaVolt’s £50mn investment drive as it targets 5,000 rapid EV chargers by 2025.
InstaVolt CEO, Adrian Keen, said: “Our project at Welcome Break marks a significant step forward for EV drivers who, for the first time, can now enjoy InstaVolt’s award winning contactless payment and class leading reliability on a motorway service area. The M6 has particular importance to us as it is one of the busiest and longest continuous motorways in the UK. serving the country’s second city, Birmingham, while bypassing Coventry and the market town of Rugby.”
