Government plans EV chargers for new homes in world first

The government has outlined plans for all new-build homes to be fitted with an electric car chargepoint in what it said was a “world first”.

On Monday 15 July, it released a public consultation on changing building regulations in England in which the proposal was made. It means that England is now set to become the first country to introduce mandatory chargepoints in new homes, as the government aims to both support and encourage the uptake of electric vehicles in the country.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said: “Home charging provides the most convenient and low-cost option for consumers – you can simply plug your car in to charge overnight as you would a mobile phone.”
