From 2025, all new ships ordered for UK waters must be zero-emission capable, the government has announced.
The announcement was made on Thursday 11 July as part of the government’s Clean Maritime Plan, which will look to set out ways to incentivise the transition to zero-emission shipping and cut pollution from the country’s maritime sector. It includes a £1mn competition that will seek to drive innovation in clean maritime technology to reduce emissions.
Maritime Minister, Nusrat Ghani, said: “The clean maritime plan sets an ambitious vision for the sector and opens up exciting opportunities for innovation. It will help make the UK a global hub for new green technologies in the maritime sector.”Department for Transport
