GRIDSERVE announces plans for UK’s first “Electric Forecourt”

GRIDSERVE has unveiled plans to create the UK’s first solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging forecourt in Essex.

On Monday 24 June, the company announced that the forecourt would be built next to the Horizon 120, Business and Innovation Park in Braintree, marking the first out of more than 100 planned sites across the UK to deliver low-cost charging for a range of EVs. It will include dedicated zones for private and fleet vehicles and offer sub 30-minute charging times.

The site is also planned to contain an education centre and hub to explore a broad range of EV solutions. Should planning permission be granted, construction work is set to begin later this year.

Toddington Harper, GRIDSERVE CEO and Founder, said: “We plan to make charging electric vehicles as easy as using petrol stations. The latest generation of vehicles are ready for mainstream adoption, but drivers still worry about where they can charge, how long it will take and what it will cost.”
