The South East Midlands has reaffirmed ambitions of being a world-leader in transport and freight research and development in its Local Industrial Strategy.
The plan, which covers Milton Keynes, Northampton, Bedford, Luton and Aylesbury, set out how the region will look to build on existing strengths in transport innovations and develop the area into a centre of investing and implementing new technology. Aims include improving productivity and sustainability together, fuelled by renewable energy, smart and connected transport solutions and greener vehicles.
The strategy also aims for the region to lead the way on the Future of Mobility Grand Challenge. It will do this through continued investment in the area’s aerospace and advanced engineering excellence, as well as pioneering use of innovative freight technologies and demand-responsive transport.
