Multi-million funding allocated for EV charging innovation

The government is aiming to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) after supporting a series of EV charging innovations with £37mn funding.

On Tuesday 9 July, the Department of Transport announced that 12 projects will receive a share of the funding, including £2.3mn for Char.gy’s wireless charging technology and £3mn for Urban Electric’s “pop-up” chargers which are built into the pavement, which aim to benefit EV drivers without access to off-street parking. Other projects to be receive support include a renovation project to install chargers for overnight mass charging and solar-powered forecourts.

Three-month feasibility studies have been completed with successful projects now moving onto the next stage of their development.
