New fund looks for innovative community energy ideas

Community energy businesses are being invited to apply for grants of up to £100,000 under Power to Change’s Next Generation Community Energy Programme.

Businesses will be supported to develop into holistic energy firms, providing benefits across their local community, with a support programme of research and analysis awarded alongside the grant. The programme is looking to support established and experienced community energy businesses in developing innovative, decentralised, decarbonised and democratised business models. Projects need to be completed by June 2021, with the application window set to close on 15 September.

Power to Change has also partnered with Big Society Capital to create CORE LLP partners, providing additional capital to fund the purchase of existing solar farms that are currently privately owned. CORE will hold the solar farms in trust while the local community develops the capacity to buy them back and is skilled up and supported through the Next Generation Programme.
