The government has called for all newly installed rapid and higher-powered charge points to offer debit or credit card payment by spring 2020.
On Monday 15 July, the government explained it had signalled to the industry that it was expecting a roaming solution across the charging network, ensuring electric vehicle (EV) drivers are able to use any public charge point through a single payment method. Work is also underway between government and industry to ensure charge point is freely available to drivers, allowing them to easily locate and access them.
The announcement was made as BP Chargemaster committed to introducing card payment on all new 50kW and 150kW chargers. It is also to retrofit its existing UK-made rapid chargers with the technology over the next 12 months.
