Northern Powergrid has set out its emerging thinking on how it can play a key role in a green recovery, economic growth and power the communities it serves from 2023 and beyond.
On 24 August, it published the early stages of its business plan, Emerging Thinking – Building our plan for 2023-2028. It explained that it had opted to share it as early as possible in order to aid the plan’s development, which will be finalised next year, in line with Ofgem’s ED2 price control period. Its emerging thinking document set out the core themes that it wants stakeholders and customers to share their views on to shape the final business plan, which will guide the region towards net zero, while formalising Northern Powergrid’s commitment to ensuring rapid decarbonisation across the network.
Topics views will be sought on include: supporting the regional and national economic recovery following COVID-19; “building back better” and enabling a “just transition to a low carbon economy; being a “force for good” in the communities Northern Powergrid serves; ensuring there is collaboration across the whole energy system to deliver cross-sector and wide-ranging benefits to customers; ensuring focus is kept on the reliability of the network to protect customers; maintaining a strong commitment to protecting the natural environment; and continuous improvement in all areas, from network innovation to customer service.
