Octopus Energy is targeting the development of smart grids, increased automation and incorporating smart meters into its offering after acquiring nCube Home.
As the UK’s first independent smart home energy management platform, nCube Home is able to “bridge the gap” between Internet of Things (IoT) devices through using Z-Wave, WiFi, Zigbee, Bluetooth and LAN. It is able to support over 100 products, including Nest, Sonos and Yale, with the deal seeing nCube CEO and Founder, Phil Steele joining Octopus Energy as Future Technologies Evangelist.
Octopus Energy CEO, Greg Jackson, said: “With Octopus’s smart tariffs, customers get cheap green electricity when the wind blows, the sun shines and the grid is quiet. nCube’s technology means this whole process can be automated so customers get cheap, green energy without even thinking about it.”
