Ørsted has officially opened its expanded East Coast Hub at its port in Grimsby, with the site becoming the world’s largest offshore wind operations and maintenance (O&M) centre.
The base employs 350 people and has benefited from £10mn investment in both its quayside and office facilities. It is directly managing four offshore wind farms: Westermost Rough (210MW), Lincs (270MW), Race Bank (573MW) and Gunfleet Sands (172MW). Hornsea 1 (1.2GW) and Hornsea 2 (1.4GW) will join its portfolio when becoming operational in 2020 and 2022 respectively.
Darren Ramshaw, Ørsted Head of the East Coast Region, said: “The town has become a leading light in the development of offshore wind for the country and has really embraced the skills and opportunities that have become available within this exciting sector.”
