Norman Lamb, MP for North Norfolk, has praised Oxford for “leading the way” when it comes to decarbonising the economy.
Lamb, who is Chairman of the parliamentary Science and Technology Committee, was visiting the community-owned power station on Osney Island on Wednesday 10 July to learn about the “smart grid trial”, Project Local Energy Oxfordshire (LEO). The £40mn Project LEO tests electricity network flexibility models and markets across Oxfordshire, along with other eco-friendly schemes.
Lamb said: “We need to look at what incentives are necessary from government to get other areas to do this sort of thing. I think part of the solution of how we decarbonise our whole economy will come down to local action.”
