SP Energy Networks has launched its biggest ever flexibility tender, calling for services in 40HV and EHV locations across Scotland, Energy and North Wales.
The tender, which opened at the start of September, sees the network operator looking to procure up to 650MW over a five-year period. A further 1,038 LV sites are also on offer for 288MW over five years, taking the full procurement capacity SP Energy Networks is tendering to over 900MW. Long-term contracts will be put in place for the period April 2023 to March 2028.
The sites have been selected as they are forecast to have increased demand on the network from electric vehicles and heating solutions.
SP Energy Networks explained access to flexibility will play a crucial role in its transition to a Distribution System Operator (DSO). The move will help it to continue to develop smarter, more flexible network solutions that remove the need for traditional reinforcement methods such as new cable and substations, reducing costs for customers and improving network resilience in the process.
The tender window closes on 9 October, with bidding running from 26-30 October. The contracts will be awarded in December.
