SSE Enterprise has secured £3.4mn government funding for a pilot scheme that will enable homeowners without off-road parking to charge their electric vehicles (EVs).
The grant will support SSE’s £5.2mn Park and Charge Scheme in Oxfordshire. This will see it install innovative charging hubs that enable residents, visitors and businesses to charge their vehicles at 35 local authority owned car parks. SSE is working as part of a consortium including Zeta Group, Oxfordshire County Council and Oxford University.
Kevin Welstead, Director of SSE Enterprise’s EV team, said: “Lack of off-street charging is a real barrier to EV take up in many local areas and our innovative approach will enable residents to opt for an EV, even though they do not have a home charging point.”
