UK “needs 20mn mini power stations” to hit net zero targets

If the UK is to achieve its net zero energy goals, then it will need 20mn mini power stations, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Energy Storage has heard.

Energy Storage News reported that Dr Andrew Crossland, an engineer with the MCS’ Battery Installation Standard Division, further explained battery systems used in energy storage remained some way from the same commoditisation that had accelerated solar energy equipment sales. He suggested energy trading and selling power back to the grid as alternatives, when the group convened to discuss energy storage on 15 July.

The group, chaired by Waveney MP Peter Aldous, stressed that the creation of a policy framework for technologies such as energy storage and solar PV was now an immediate priority.
