UK Power Networks (UKPN) has signed contracts worth £450,000, totalling 18.1MW of flexibility, following its competitive tender.
UKPN made an initial announcement in May where it said that its flexibility auction had been successful and contracts had been offered. On Thursday 4 July, it announced that these contracts had now been signed with companies such as AMP Clean Energy, Limejump, Powervault and Moixa. The bidding process was managed and hosted through online platform, Piclo, which matched energy providers’ resources with the network operator’s local need for flexible energy resources.
Head of Smart Grid Development at UKPN, Sotiris Georgiopoulos explained that distributed generation and demand-side response would support UKPN’s efforts to create an open, transparent, accountable new market for their services. Georgiopoulos added: “Flexibility has a key role to play as we move towards a decarbonised, decentralised and digitised network that will offer significant benefits to our customers.”
