UK Power Networks (UKPN) has unveiled a funding package worth £50mn, covering over 130 sites, in its largest-ever open flexibility tender.
Last week, UKPN confirmed that is seeking a total of 250MWh of flexible capacity, with contracts on offer up to 2028, covering system needs that will surface within the next electricity network price control period, set to run from 2023. UKPN also revealed it is offering its first ever extra high voltage sites for tender, which could open up the market to new entrants. Pre-qualification will close on 8 December. The tender competition will run from 11-20 January 2021.
Opportunities are available in all three of UKPN’s licence areas – London, the South East, and East of England – with a range of products on offer to reflect the needs of different market participants. Contracts vary from traditional ones, offering the certainty of a set fee for a set service, to more flexible contracts, which will allow providers to make a decision about participating in the market closer to real-time.
