UK’s first electric forecourt under construction, set to open summer 2020

GRIDSERVE has announced that the first in a network of over 100 Electric Forecourts across the UK is under construction and will open in the summer.

On 10 March, it said that the forecourt near Braintree will be able to charge 24 electric vehicles (EV) at once with superchargers capable of delivering up to 350kW of charging power. This will ensure people can charge their vehicles within 20-30 minutes initially. The forecourts will be powered with clean, zero carbon solar energy and battery storage projects that have also been constructed by GRIDSERVE.

GRIDSERVE added that while vehicles are charging, drivers will be able to relax or shop in a state of the art two storey building with facilities including a coffee shop and an airport-style lounge with high-speed internet and meeting rooms. The building will also look to function as an education centre for EVs and sustainable energy.

Toddinghton Harper, CEO and founder of GRIDSERVE, said: “This will be the most advanced charging facility in the UK, and possibly the world. Drivers will be able to turn up and charge their vehicle at the fastest rate each vehicle can support, using 100% renewable energy, and with the best possible charging experience.”
