Western Power Distribution (WPD) and Anesco are joining forces for a Demand Side Management Agreement, said to be one of the first of its kind in the UK.
Under the deal, announced on 29 July, Anesco will operate its electricity consumption at a lower capacity for a pre-determined period of time, getting reduced extra high voltage charges in return. It will see flexibility to the system provided in a way that reduces both the operating costs of Anesco’s assets as well as the need and cost for additional network reinforcement.
Mike Ryan, Asset Management Director at Anesco, said: “This is a solution which provides value to the customers of both Anesco and WPD and demonstrates yet another way batteries bring benefits to the system. We look forward to other DNOs learning from WPD’s leadership in this area.”
